Adrian Yu is a multidisciplinary international artist, director, photographer, and creative director.

Born in NY and growing up in LA from a family of Hong Kongese immigrants, Yu weaves his own Asian-American identity and interdisciplinary skill set through film and sculpture with a rigorous research driven approach to site through a practice he calls spatial cinema. The interplay of audiovisual spectacle with environmental storytelling create a moving phenomenology for audiences in immersive experiences.

Technologies and mediums he frequently works with include cinematic VFX, gaming engines, artificial intelligence, generative music, and web interfaces.

His solo shows include Art Basel Hong Kong & Miami, Wallplay NY, and Oi! Art Center. His work has been featured in publications including Fast Company, Pitchfork, Hypebeast, IGN, Billboard, PAPER, FADER, and Rolling Stone – and is the recipient of 5 Clios and a One Club Young Gun award.

In his commercial work, he founded his own creative studio Excetera where he’s gone on to creative direct, design, and produce campaigns, experiences, and digital platforms for cultural clients such as Sphere Vegas, SSENSE, Burna Boy, 88 Rising, and Amazon Music. Since, he’s directed TV spots, content, and music videos for clients such as Nike, One Plus, and Spotify – as well as directed promos and title sequences for Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Tokyo Vice.
